The End of the Edo Era was also the end of the Age of the Samurai. The arrival of the Westerners with their new ways and weapons was generating turmoil and chaos throughout Japan. The members of the Kakunojou Yuuyama Theater Troupe have spent ten years seeking to revenge the death of their Master. High School student Shinichi Kudou was a virtual Sherlock Holmes, who the Tokyo police regularly turned to for help in solving baffling cases. But then he accidentally learned too much for his own good about a murder case, and was caught by the villains. They poisoned him and left him for dead, but the "poison" had an unexpected effect--rather than killing him, it caused Shinichi to revert to the appearance of an elementary school boy! He retains his skills as a brilliant detective, however, and since that incident has managed to become adopted by his former girlfriend and her less-than-exemplary private detective father. Shirahama Kenichi was tired at bullied by his classmates, so he joined the school’s karate club, but they were no better. They nicknamed him ‘sandbag’ and treated him like a practice dummy, refusing to teach him any of the moves. Then one day he bumped up against a new transfer student and she unconsciously threw him for a full body flip. The cute new student is Furinji Miu and she seems to like Kenichi. She encourages him to think about attending a new dojo and even gives him a map. The dojo is the home to a number of scary martial arts masters, the worst is perhaps Miu’s grandfather. And so, Kenichi begins a grueling and harsh training program at the home of his new school friend, under the instruction of her strange housemates. |
