Action Comedy/Mecha Titles

Action Comedy: Much like ACTION (Lots of shooting, explosions, and the like) except it has comedy thrown in as well.

This is a genre of anime which features mechanical fighting machines. Often these take the form of giant robots but this isn't the only form mecha can take. There are tons of examples of mecha titles considering the popularity of the series. Blue Gender, Shin Seiki Evangelion, Tenkuu no Escaflowne, and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 are all classic mecha titles.

Assemble Insert
Rent The police are powerless against "Demon Seed", a criminal gang which employs hi-tech armored battle suits. What's more, the collateral damage that results from the futile attempts to stop the bandits has made the police increasingly unpopular. Chief Hattori of the "Counter Demon Seed Special Agent Headquarters" comes up with a bizarre solution: hold special "Hero Auditions" in hope of finding someone who is both capable of stopping Demon Seed and popular enough that the public will forgive whatever damage occurs in the process! The adorably cute and incredibly strong Maron Namikaze seems to be just the girl Hattori has been looking for. "A super idol who can sing, dance, and fight crime will soon be born!"

When the tomboyish Haruhara Haruko enters the scene, running down Naota with her motorscooter before smashing him over the head with her guitar, things will never be the same again.

G-on Riders
Buy In a near future time when alien attacks have become a common event, a secret (Japanese) organization called the GRA (GRAND RIFUREKUTO AMUDO, Grand Reflect Armor) has developed a very effective defense. Using a technology developed by Dr Sanada Mio, which she calls the 'G-On', certain young students wearing glasses (hence the "G" in the title) are able to harness their strong feelings and manifest those abilities and weapons that prove effective against the alien attacking units. The GRA has sponsored an elite high school to help identify and develop the students who have this ability in the hopes that they can defend not only Japan, but also the earth from the alien invaders.

They still exist in a highly advanced subterranean empire, and Emperor Gore is about to dispatch his highly sophisticated "Mechasauruses" to exterminate the human race and regain control of the Earth's surface. The only technology that could possibly stop them is Professor Saotome's research into "Getter Rays", and his construction of transforming robots which employ them. After the robot which he had hoped to use for space exploration is smashed by the invaders, killing his son, all seems lost--until his younger son reveals the existence of another Getter Robo, this one heavily armed. But with the original crewmen dead, who will fly it?
