Quantcast

Competition/Pantsu/High School Titles

A story which uses incorporates a competitive event as a primary component of the story line, but which is not of a martial-arts or violent nature. While both being cooking based series, Yakitate!! Japan and Chuuka Ichiban are good examples of this genre.

Self-explanatory. High school (grades 10-12) should play a major role in the title. Azumanga Daioh is an excellent example of this category. A typical High school series will include a Sports Festival, a Cultural Festival, and a school Trip.

In the Kanto Plain of Japan, high schools in the area are little more than fronts for what appear to be nothing more than gangs who all wear a strange earring. Within these schools, students fight to be the top-rated fighters in order to represent their school at the very unofficial Great Fighter's Tournament. However, what appears to be nothing more than thugs fighting street battles is in reality ancient Chinese history coming back to replay itself in modern times with students having names of various warriors from that time.

Rent Nagi Souichirou and best friend, Bob, are both tough street fighters, but when they transfer to a new high school, they get their a**es kicked by the local gangs. They find out that their new high school is dedicated to refounding the martial arts, and combat ability is rated higher than academic skills. And what is with the cute Natsume Aya, who has decided to become his girlfriend (without even bothering to ask him)? But Souichirou is a glutton for punishment, with a fighting spirit that cannot be kept down for long.

Watch Sunao Konoe has transferred to a new school. Dreaming of being an actor all her life, she is trying to form a new theater/drama club there. But she runs into all kinds of problems, most notably with the arrogant "princess" Kiriya Erika who's a rich family's daughter and undisputed head of the school council (and would have to give her the license to form a new club) and her bunch of friends, plus the "kendo girl" Kurogane Otome who's the discipline enforcer of the school council. And to her surprise Sunao meets her childhood friend Tsushima Leo at this school again who had been the only one to support her with her theater project at school ten years ago while at the same time nicknaming her "radish" (which has a side meaning of "bad actor")... but Sunao is a dedicated girl and will do whatever it takes to form her theater club, with Otome soon beginning to support her. And slowly but surely she earns the respect of those who considered her a mere theater freak at first...
