This is a term coined to identify things like jiggling breasts, cleavage shots, panty shots, bra shots, closeup shots of women's breast, legs, butt, etc., and mild nudity all for the purposes of "servicing" the audience and having no relevance to the plot or characters of a series. The term has a second meaning covering things like massive action sequences, explosions, fights, etc., but it mostly refers to the first meaning.
Self-explanatory. High school (grades 10-12) should play a major role in the title. Azumanga Daioh is an excellent example of this category. A typical High school series will include a Sports Festival, a Cultural Festival, and a school Trip.

On the last day of high school, right before the summer break, Makimura Koutarou decides that he is going to confess to the school idol, Serizawa Kaho-chan (by talking Ai, the younger girl living next door to him, into delivering his love letter) - only to be turned down instantly. On his way home that night, he confronts a trench-coated stalker in the shadows and ends up being showered with a strange powder. The next morning when he wakes up, six weeks have passed and his school is having a memorial service for Serizawa Kaho, with everyone being sympathetic at the death of his girl friend. After Ataru's mother, Moroboshi-san, recaps the first 21 episodes of Urusei Yatsura, Ataru and his class go on a field trip to visit historical places in Japan (Golden Temple and more). A kunoichi (female ninja) named Kaede accidently loses a secret document and her master demands she find it. As it happens, Ataru discovers is, thus Kaede must pursue him in order to gain the scroll. Because she's so nice, she doesn't just take it from him. As such, Ataru assumes she has feelings for him. Unfortunately for him, Lum-chan has rented a school uniform and has been tagging along to make sure he doesn't stray. Will Kaede regain the scroll? Will Ataru kiss Kaede? Will anyone survive Lum-chan? |
