OVA/Acquired Taste/Mecha Titles

OVA: (Type) OVA = Original Video Animation. These are the direct-to-video anime titles done in Japan. Often, OVAs can start a franchise (Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki), start a TV series (Mahou Tsukai Tai!), be a sequel to a TV series (Love Hina Again), or be a stand-alone title (Aa! Megami-sama! OVA). Sometimes, the OAVs are named the same as the TV series and thus will sometimes have the term OVA listed after the title's name to separate it.

Acquired Taste: (Style) These are titles which may take a while to get used to. As such, you should watch several episodes before making up your mind.

Mecha: (Story/Location) This is a genre of anime which features mechanical fighting machines. Often these take the form of giant robots but this isn't the only form mecha can take. There are tons of examples of mecha titles considering the popularity of the series.

Kido Keisatsu Patoreba	Buy	In the future, (I guess now the past because it is set in 1998) great advancements are made with the creation of Labors, giant robots designed for construction. With the increased use of Labors, Labors crimes also skyrocketed. To combate this threat, Tokyo formed the Special Vehicals Section 2 and gave them Patrol Labors or Patlabors.
Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor (1990)	Rent	In the late 20th century, tremendous advances in robotics led to the development of the "Labor". Replacing slower, less versatile industrial equipment, the Labor was also capable of inflicting mass destruction. Virtually unstoppable by conventional police units, the labor quickly became the weapon of choice for terrorists, criminals, and seriously disturbed sociopaths. To fight these criminals, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department established the "Special Vehicles, Section 2," comprised of specially designed Patrol Labors--"Patlabors".
