The first episode is out as a fansub. And what a very interesting first episode it is. Reminiscent of the story of NEO in the Matrix movie or any one of a number of those classic cyberpunk scifi novels, the main character of Souma Toru is a brooding and complex young man, who gets pushed into a corner with very few options. But just don’t expect him to just sit there quietly, while those around him attempt to manipulate and use him for their own ends. And whenever they jump into cyberspace, they appear suited in heavily armed mecha units which they use to invade other server systems (this is the weakest link in the story). But I am looking forward to the next episode. "Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalized, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, a ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body." Lawrence Person, "Notes Toward a Postcyberpunk Manifesto", first published in Nova Express issue 16 (1998), later posted to Slashdot. Last updated Monday, December 04 2006. | ||||||||
