A teenage Kyu is quite fascinated by the mystery shows that appear on TV, when one afternoon he accidentally bumps into a man coming out of a bank, and money flies everywhere. Falsely accused of taking a 10,000-yen-note, he is helped by Minami Megumi (Meg) who has a photographic memory, and Kyu is able to sleuth out where the missing bill went. Later that evening, the man whom Kyu bumped into earlier dies at a nearby construction site, and it falls upon Kyu and Megumi to figure out the circumstances of his unexpected death.
The success of their findings impresses an undercover agent of the Dan Detective Agency, and they are invited to apply as students to the private elite Dan Detective School, where together with two other students they put in "class Q" (Q as in qualified) and are surprised to find out that their sensei is no less than Dan Morihiko, the legendary master detective himself.
